s p a c e h e l m e t (paper mache, paint, fabric, 2025) came from the idea that sometimes sensory input can be just too much. With modular accessories to block out sight, sound and the world in general, the helmet gives the wearer the option to choose what they experience always, sometimes and never. There are ear covers, an eye cover, and the ‘nope’ panel, which fully encloses the face and is quite unpleasant. Visually it evokes the idea of a ‘tin foil hat’, and likewise is very much homemade and probably not particularly effective.
My work examines ideas of image, our place in the world, and of fragility and resilience. I work with a variety of media to produce thought provoking work accessed through a touch of absurdity and humour.
